APX April volumes up by 41% year-on-year

• Total traded and cleared volume 10.45 TWh
• Daily record on the Power UK Day-Ahead auction on 26 April with 191,184 MWh traded

Power spot and clearing exchange APX today announces the volumes of its power markets for the month of April. A total of 10.45 TWh traded and cleared across all markets in April, up by 41% year-on-year.

The Power NL Day-Ahead auction recorded a total of 3.43 TWh traded while 88 GWh was traded on the Dutch Intraday market, up by 42% year-on-year.

The Belpex Day-Ahead auction reached 1.80 TWh traded in April, up by 3% year-on-year, while 84 GWh was traded on the Belpex Intraday market, also up from April 2014 by 104%.

The Power UK market witnessed a successful month with total volumes increasing by 156% year-on-year and reaching a total of 5.04 TWh traded and cleared on the market. The Continuous market recorded a healthy total volume of 1.26 TWh, up by 13% from April 2014. The Power UK Day-Ahead auction experienced yet another month of strong growth and recorded 3.69 TWh traded, up by over 330% year-on-year. The all-time daily record was reached on 26 April with 191,184 MWh traded for delivery on 27 April.
The Half Hour Day-Ahead 15:30 Auction recorded 93 GWh.
The Power UK OTC Bilateral clearing registered 15 GWh.

Price Convergence and Day-Ahead Indices

In April, the CWE region had full price convergence for approximately 5% of the time. The Dutch price converged with the German price 18% and with the Belgian price 53% of the time. The Belgian price was converging with the French price 39% of the time.

The Dutch power index for the Day-Ahead Market, APX NL DAM Index, had a monthly average price of 41.36 €/MWh in April. Belix, the index for the Belpex Day-Ahead Market, had a monthly average price of47.67 €/MWh. The UK power index for the Day-Ahead Market, UKPX Auction Base Index, had a monthly average price of 44.11 £/MWh.

Spot Indices

UKPX RPD Spot Base Load Index (derived from APX Power UK’s Reference Price Data (RPD)) had a high of 46.70 £/MWh on 5 April and a low of 35.35 £/MWh on 12 April.
UKPX RPD Spot Industrial Peak Load Index (also RPD-derived) had a high of 50.56 £/MWh on 23 April and a low of 34.50 £/MWh on 12 April.
