APX Records Steady Volumes in July

AMSTERDAM/BRUSSELS/LONDON, 6 August 2013

Power spot and clearing exchange APX today announces the volumes of its power markets for the month of July. A total of 7.01 TWh was traded and cleared on the exchange; exceeding the volumes traded in July 2012.
A total of 144,474 trades were placed across the APX power spot markets.

A total of 3.97 TWh was traded on the Power NL Day-Ahead auction. The volumes traded on the Dutch Intraday market recorded 29 GWh.
A total of 68,725 trades were registered on the Dutch power market in July.

Volumes traded on the Belpex Day-Ahead auction remained steady from the previous year at 1.13 TWh while 16 GWh was traded on the Belpex Intraday market.
A total of 21,714 trades were registered on the Belgian power market in July.

The volumes traded on the Power UK market remained healthy with a total of 1.86 TWh. The continuous market experienced steady volumes year-on-year and recorded 1.04 TWh. The volume traded on the Day-Ahead auction nearly doubled year-on-year by reaching 820 GWh in July. Power UK OTC clearing registered 11 GWh.
A total of 54,035 trades were registered on the UK power market in July.

CWE Price Convergence

In July, the entire CWE region had full price convergence for approximately 16% of the time. The Dutch market was connected 24% of the time with at least one neighbouring country (Germany or Belgium) and the Belgian market experienced convergence with a neighbouring market (The Netherlands or France) 96% of the time.

Spot Indices

In July, the Dutch power index for the Day-Ahead Market, APX NL DAM Index, had a monthly average price of €47.76/MWh. Belix, the index for the Belpex Day-Ahead Market, had a monthly average price of €34.61/MWh. The UK power index for the Day-Ahead Market, UKPX Auction Base Index, had a monthly average price of £47.97/MWh.

UKPX RPD Spot Base Load Index (derived from APX Power UK’s Reference Price Data (RPD)) had a high of £66.60/MWh on 9 July and a low of £43.56/MWh on 28 July.
UKPX RPD Spot Industrial Peak Load Index (also RPD-derived) had a high of £86.47/MWh on 9 July and a low of £45.11/MWh on 28 July.
