APX Reports May Trading Results

AMSTERDAM/BRUSSELS/LONDON, 3 June 2014

Power spot and clearing exchange APX today announces the volumes of its power markets for the month of May. A total of 7.78 TWh was traded and cleared on the exchange.
A total of 156,420 trades were placed across the APX power spot markets.

The Power NL Day-Ahead auction reached 3.84 TWh traded while 82 GWh was traded on the Dutch Intraday market.
A total of 67,929 trades were registered on the Dutch power market in May.

The volume on the Belpex Day-Ahead auction reached 1.65 TWh traded while 68 GWh was traded on the Belpex Intraday market.
A total of 26,053 trades were registered on the Belgian power market.

The Power UK market registered a total volume of 2.14 TWh traded and cleared. The Continuous market recorded a total of 1.18 TWh, exceeding May 2013 volume by 9%. The Power UK Day-Ahead auction experienced another successful month in May with 958 GWh traded.
The Power UK OTC Bilateral clearing registered 3.5 GWh.
A total of 62,438 trades were registered on the UK power market in May.

New member joins APX

In May APX welcomed Neas Energy A/S as a new member to the exchange. Neas Energy joined the APX Power NL market, which now has 58 members.

Price Convergence and Day-Ahead Indices

In May, the CWE region had full price convergence for approximately 17% of the time. The Dutch price converged with the German price 26% and with the Belgian price 91% of the time. The Belgian price was converging with the French price 21% of the time.

The Dutch power index for the Day-Ahead Market, APX NL DAM Index, had a monthly average price of €38.65/MWh in May. Belix, the index for the Belpex Day-Ahead Market, had a monthly average price of €38.71/MWh. The UK power index for the Day-Ahead Market, UKPX Auction Base Index, had a monthly average price of £39.50/MWh.

Spot Indices

UKPX RPD Spot Base Load Index (derived from APX Power UK’s Reference Price Data (RPD)) had a high of £45.61/MWh on 15 May and a low of £35.94/MWh on 11 May.
UKPX RPD Spot Industrial Peak Load Index (also RPD-derived) had a high of £53.75/MWh on 15 May and a low of £36.24/MWh on 18 May.
